Asantehene Sponsors Free Lunch Packs for Students Who Visit Manhyia Museum

His Majesty, after hearing that the number of students and children visiting the Manhyia Palace Museum has increased since the return of some looted artefacts by the British, instituted this initiative.

It took effect on May 1, 2025, with 4,000 children benefiting.

These “little gestures,” as described by the Asantehene, have attracted commendations from other stakeholders, especially development corporation partners.

The best part is that some students get the rare opportunity to interact with His Majesty.

Delivering a speech at the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Art Award at the Manhyia Palace on May 23, 2025, the King shared some of his engagements with such lucky students.

“I talk to them about respect for cultural diversity, and they in turn ask intriguing questions. They use ‘ours’ instead of ‘yours.’ Some tell me they aspire to be great artists like our ‘ancestors’ who produced these looted and returned objects that we have.”

It is the King’s view that the future aspired for the next generation cannot be ideal if the visual meanings of the current generation and the many societies that form Ghana’s nationhood are forgotten.
