Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie: Asantehene Pays Respects to Nana Konadu Yiadom III

Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie Day 1: Scenes from Manhyia Palace (Pictures)

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has paid his last respects to the late Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

His Majesty stepped out in public on Monday afternoon in royal kuntunkuni (mourning cloth), along with a headgear adorned with pepper and green leaves, symbolising the pain of the loss.

The residence of the Asantehemaa was the first port of call for the Asantehene before taking his seat in state on Monday, September 15, 2025.

Borne in a palanquin, the large procession of His Majesty entered the Manhyia Palace through the main entrance and made its way to the residence of the Queen, who lies in repose.

The King paused briefly to exchange pleasantries with the grieving royals gathered at the residence.

The carefully planned burial rites will witness a series of activities from September 15 to September 18, when the rites will come to an end.

Her Majesty will be buried on the last day at Breman Baamu.

Filing past is reserved to take place sequentially among dignitaries and the general public from September 15 to 18, between 5 am and 5 pm, except for the last day, when it will end at 11 am to make way for a burial service at 3 pm.

A key point to note is the institution of the restriction on outdoor movement effective 7 pm on September 18 to make way for the burial of Her Majesty.
