Ahwebaa Sword Is Superior to Mponponsuo- Asantehene

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has enlightened traditional authorities about the hierarchy of the swords used to administer the oath of allegiance for chiefs.

At an Asanteman Council meeting on October 16, 2025, Otumfuo said the Ahwebaa Sword was superior to the Mponponsuo sword which is widely known among traditional authorities.

Ahwebaa Sword:

His Majesty stated that Opemsuo Osei Tutu created the Ahwebaa Sword, making it the first among all swords used for oath of allegiance.

It is followed in supremacy by the Mponponsuo Sword which was created by Opoku Ware.

This clarification was given while the Asantehene addressed a misconception among Nananom about the status of the swords.

“There is a trend where all chiefs want to swear with the Mponponsuo sword not knowing Ahwebaa is supreme among all swords.”
