Outgoing Ashanti Regional Police Commander Attributes Promotion to Otumfuo’s Guidance

The newly promoted Commissioner of Police (COP), Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has credited the counsel and blessings of the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his success during his short tenure as the Ashanti Regional Commander.

Formerly a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Teye-Cudjoe was assigned to the Ashanti Region in February 2025, in the stead of DCOP Frank Abrokwa.

He was promoted by the Inspector General of Police last week in recognition of his dedicated service and has since been reassigned to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) at the national headquarters.

During a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on November 5, 2025, he formally informed the King about the development and expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for shaping his duty through his blessings and directions.

Speaking on his behalf, Chief Supt Frederick Hammond, the Manhyia Divisional Commander, said, “The direction and counsel of Otumfuo has brought him this far.”

He further introduced Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto as his successor.

The incoming Regional Commander, who has been in service for the past 34 years, could not hide his joy at the present opportunity to serve Asanteman before his anticipated retirement.

“By the grace of God, there is an opportunity for me to come serve Asanteman. I have been working for the past 34 years, and I will soon retire. I have served in various places, and it would have been a great disappointment had I not been able to serve my very own.”

He sought the blessings and directions of Otumfuo to give repute and honour to his years-long service to Ghana and Asanteman.

Merit-based
Otumfuo remarked that the promotion of COP Teye-Cudjoe was merit-based, as His Majesty welcomed the information as good news.

His Majesty encouraged him to keep up with his diligence and commitment to work.

“There is a much bigger task ahead of him, and he must meet the expectations.”

Mandate
The Asantehene welcomed the new Regional Commander into his abode with warmth.

The King took him through key issues of concern in the region, urging him to work within the confines of his mandate to maintain peace and order in the region.

His Majesty emphasised that disputes relating to chieftaincy and land are out of bounds for police resolution.

Such issues, the Asantehene noted, are within his remit.

“Land and chieftaincy disputes are within my domain. That is not part of your duty. When any chief brings such cases to you, tell them it will be forwarded to me. The same applies to land disputes. No matter how serious the issue is, when it comes before me, it will be resolved.”

“Land guards are not countenanced here. I will destool any chief who engages the services of land guards. When I gave the stool to you, I didn’t ask you to bring land guards to guard the land. I will not give you the power to bring people to kill others. Wherever there is a dispute, inform me and we will resolve them all.”

DCOP Arthur was encouraged to clamp down on all other crimes for peace to reign.

Oppose Intimidation
The Occupant of the Golden Stool also urged him to push against any form of intimidation from persons purportedly sent by him.

“If anyone comes to you with my name, tell him you are going to verify and confirm. I won’t send anyone. If I have any information for you, I will cause a call to be placed to you. Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated by my name.”

Otumfuo further encouraged him to provide frequent briefings about developments in the country.

Among the delegation of the outgoing regional commander were CP/Mr. Francis Kouame Somian, Deputy Regional Commander; Chief Supt Frederick Hammond, the Manhyia Divisional Commander; and DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional PRO.
