Asantehene Promises Grenada a Visit

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has promised to pay a State Visit to Grenada.

The promise was made to the ninth Prime Minister of the Island country, Dickon Mitchell, during a speech delivered on November 12, 2025, at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados.

The Prime Minister, an alumna of the University, was among the audience of His Majesty.

“Hon Prime Minister of Grenada, my son, I’m yet to visit you, but I will come.”

His Majesty reaffirmed the significance of his visit to the Caribbean- a place he said is “so dear” to his heart and “so inextricably” linked to the tides of history to the Asante Kingdom and the African continent at large.

Otumfuo is in Barbados on a three-day working visit.

The King described his reconnections with the Caribbean as an “inspiring moment that stirs the soul.”

In his speech, the King said his second official visit to the country was with unqualified pleasure and a deep sense of historical purpose.

His Majesty furthered, “Let me confess that I keep returning to the Caribbean islands, albeit always in response to invitations extended to me, simply because I see myself as someone on a larger mission, the noble mission of contributing my quota towards fostering, broadening and cementing the growing relations between Africa and the Caribbean and between Africa and its diaspora.”

Mitchell, the youngest Grenadian PM in history, is an attorney and a graduate of the UWI Cave Hill Faculty of Law.
