Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie Day 1: Scenes from Manhyia Palace (Pictures)

Manhyia Palace is draped in black as the Asante Kingdom mourns Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the late Queen.
From decorations to demeanour, the Palace’s mourning attire and subdued atmosphere honour the memory of Nana Konadu as she lies in state.
A portion of the Palace has on display various portraits of Her Majesty’s rulership, some with the King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Meanwhile, there is a poignant display of non-stop traditional worship underway by priests and priestesses as they showcase their deep reverence and mourning.
The carefully planned burial rites will witness a series of activities from September 15 to September 18, when the rites will come to an end.
Her Majesty will be buried on the last day at Breman Baamu.
Filing past is reserved to take place sequentially among dignitaries and the general public from September 15 to 18, between 5 am and 5 pm, except for the last day, when it will end at 11 am to make way for a burial service at 3 pm.
A key point to note is the institution of the restriction on outdoor movement effective 7 pm on September 18 to make way for the burial of Her Majesty.
Below are some scenes from the Palace:
