Did You Know Asantehene Gifted Parliament the Kente Frames Displayed Behind the Speaker’s Seat?

When you enter the plenary chamber of Parliament, you will see two large kente frames mounted on the wall behind the Speaker’s seat.
These were gifted to Parliament by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
It was disclosed by the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Asiamah, when a delegation from Parliament, led by Speaker Alban Bagbin, paid a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace on October 15, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker, permission was sought from the King to take down the frames as part of an ongoing renovation project.

Hon. Asiamah explained that the artefacts had worn out, hence the need to remove them to complement the renovation works, which will be unveiled when Parliament reconvenes.
In response, Otumfuo directed his Mpaboahene to supervise the immediate replacement of the artefacts.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, visited the Palace to, among other things, personally convey his sympathies to Otumfuo over the passing of the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

During the visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on October 15, 2025, he explained the reason for his earlier absence, which was well received by His Majesty.
The Speaker was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene; Second Deputy Speaker, Hon. Andrew Asiamah; Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor; Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei; Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror; and others.
