Asantehene Departs Suriname For Ghana

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has departed Suriname for Ghana after gracing the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations of the country in a three-day visit.
The visit was characterised by His Majesty’s participation in a series of activities and engagements since November 24, 2025.
The King was accompanied by a delegation made up of Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene, Nana Effah-Apenteng, Bompatahene, Nana Agyekum Kusi II, Oyokohene, Baffour Osei Kwame Kantankrakyi, Otumfuo Kyeame and Oheneba Owusu Korkor, Asamponghene.
Day 1
The Asantehene on November 25 graced an Extraordinary Session of The National Assembly in the morning, which was addressed by the Speaker, The Hon. Dr Ir Michaël A. Adhin and President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.
This was followed by a Parade of the Armed Forces and other activities, including Parachute jumping.
In the afternoon, the Monarch attended a reception on the occasion of the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Suriname hosted by the President H.E. Geerlings-Simons, and her Spouse, Mr Glenn E. Geerlings, at the Presidential Palace.
Later in the evening, Otumfuo joined an event featuring cultural activities as part of the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Day 3
The final day of the state visit witnessed courtesy visits. The Monarch first met President H.E. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons at the Presidential Palace at Onafhankelijkheidsplein before engaging the Speaker of the National Assembly, The Hon. Dr Ir. Michael A.S. Adhin, at Onafhankelijkheidsplein 10.
This was followed by a meeting with Mrs Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring, a Member of The National Assembly at TBR and another with the Vice Speaker of The National Assembly, The Hon. Ronnie Brunswijk, at the National Assembly at Onafhankelijkheidsplein 10.
The day culminated with an engagement with Mr Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Member of the National Assembly at TBR.
Barbados Visit
Before the visit to Suriname, Otumfuo visited Barbados. The King left Ghana for Bridgetown in the first-ever direct flight to the country on November 11, 2025.
As part of the visit, His Majesty held an engagement with Prime Minister Hon Mia Amor Mottley; honoured the Royal Diplomatic Golf Invitational at the Apes Hill Club, teeing off to mark the official opening; and visited the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
The Asantehene also graced the 16th GUBA Awards and Dinner, an initiative of Akosua Dentaa Amoateng, MBE, and her associates.

The Monarch is expected to arrive at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, Ghana, on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
