Africa and African Diaspora Must Resist Forces that Seek to Exploit Our Resources- Otumfuo

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advocated for resistance against forces that seek to exploit the resources of the continent of Africa and the African Diaspora.
Otumfuo sees the need to create new trade corridors which focus on establishing robust, direct trade links between Africa and the Caribbean.
This, he emphasised, must bypass the traditional trade routes that primarily benefit former colonial powers.
“The time has come for us to rekindle our efforts to build strong institutions that support our people and resist forces that seek to exploit our resources,” His Majesty said while addressing an audience at the University of the West Indies in Barbados on November 12, 2025.
“We should strive to foster investment and innovation by organising high-level conferences like the GUBA Trade and Investment Conference, bringing together investors, entrepreneurs and policymakers to explore, identify and build tangible economic opportunities and jobs.”
Through such collaborations, Otumfuo intimated that jobs will be created while driving innovation and ensuring shared prosperity by leveraging collective resources, intellect, and expertise.
“The Caribbean, with its relatively high literacy rates, possesses a massive pool of intellect and expertise, and Africa is a continent of immense and flourishing economies.”
