Africa Must Unite in Exploring Opportunities Hidden Within Our Challenges- Asantehene

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has sounded a clarion call for African leaders to be deliberate in forging an alliance to explore opportunities concealed within the continent’s struggles.

It is the belief of the King that this can be achieved when leaders carve a new pathway different from how Africa has been governed in the past half-century of post-colonial existence.

“The challenge is great, but the opportunity is greater,” His Majesty said at a banquet held at the Manhyia Palace on June 27, 2025, in honour of the His Majesty Mswati III of Eswatini .

Otumfuo challenged African leaders to hop onto the new horizon world where power flows out of the volts of the banks and out of the factory gates.

“Let there be no doubt in our minds that the age of ideology is dead and we need to put behind us the era of whining and moral outrage over our past. A new world of horizon is a world where power flows out of the vaults of the banks and out of the factory gates. There’s no room at the inn for the unproductive.”

Under this horizon, His Majesty emphasized that equality among all nations was but a mirage.

“We may still hold on to the belief that all men are created equal but in the world on the horizon, all nations are not equal. Equality is now a function of the balance sheet. National sovereignty is assumed by the power of the economy so either we begin and focus on building our own heaven or we perish in our own hell.”

In working towards a better Africa, the Asantehene said economies must be built to be able to compete on equal terms with the European, Asian and American countries.

“This is no delusion. We can if we are. There is no land mass on planet Earth richer in the resources of nature than Africa. We have had an accumulation of human resources with the requisite education to manage any constructive economic venture and we are available to choose from models of development that have worked in countries in other continents and in circumstances not different from our own.”

The King therefore highlighted the effective utilisation of natural resources to herald industrialization; an agricultural revolution that will turn virgin lands into the grannies of the new world; and the embrace of science and technology including Artificial Intelligence.
