Asantehemaa Burial Night Curfew: Otumfuo Engages Executioners For Incident-Free Burial

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has engaged traditional executioners for an incident-free burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the Queen of the Asante Kingdom.
The engagement took place ahead of Her Majesty’s burial, scheduled for September 18, 2025.
This was disclosed by Baffour Kantankrankyi, a linguist of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in an interview with Opemsuo Radio.
He said that the Asantehene encouraged the traditional executioners to exercise restraint in the face of defiance of the night curfew by recalcitrant members of the public.
“Otumfuo has engaged them to avoid such a thing. His Majesty wants an incident-free burial for the Queen.”
Demystifying the presumption that violators would be executed and used as part of the rites for the burial, Baffour said Asanteman is law-abiding and acknowledges the constitution’s authority.
“We have restricted outdoor movement. We don’t kill humans. We are law-abiding.”
Rather, Baffour said the directive was for public security and safety.
He explained that the preceding rites for the burial of the Queen are so powerful that they may induce possession and frenzy in the traditional executioners.
As a result, they might unintentionally hurt anyone who crosses their path.
“We don’t want anyone to bring calamity on themselves because the executioners will be leading the procession to the designated points. When the executioners take in ritual drinks, they get possessed by the spirit. They might hurt someone.”
The four-day burial rites commenced on 15th September 2025.
