Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie: Asantehene’s Role in Today’s Final Burial Rites

The final day of the burial rites has arrived and will witness the laying to rest of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa, with her ancestors at the royal mausoleum at Breman Abusuakruwa.

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will first perform the final rites for the Queen to be laid in her royal casket and taken to the Dwabrem grounds of the Manhyia Palace for a burial service at 3 pm.

After presiding over the day’s activities, the night rites will also go under the Asantehene’s watch.

In accordance with tradition, the King will accompany the remains of Her Majesty at 9 pm to Bantama Baamu for some rituals that will last till midnight.

From there, the King will lead a procession with the remains to Breman Baamu at Abusuakruwa, which will be her final resting place.

His Majesty will return to the Manhyia Palace from there to perform the traditional kete dance with his traditional wives {Aheneyere} from 2 am till 4 am and then send them away with traditional drinks.

The Asantehene will, at exactly 5 am on Friday, which is a Fofie, undergo a purification rite which will make way for him to wear white cloths.

The four-day burial rites commenced on 15th September 2025.
