Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie: Watch Asantehene’s Iconic Signature That Marked End of Day Two

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, appended an iconic signature to end the second day of the burial rites of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa.
Some minutes before the gathering at the Dwabrem grounds of the Manhyia Palace came to an end on September 16, 2025, a heavy downpour set in.
The royal Kete performers of the Palace took to the fore in the rain, flowing rhythmically with the tune of the fontomfrom as it echoed through the atmosphere.
The performers symbolically proclaimed the sovereignty and greatness of the King.
His Majesty duly responded with his flawless traditional dance skills as the heavens continued to shower on the earth.
This brought a consoling end to the day’s mourning as Asanteman saw the second day off.
Known in the local dialect as “Dɔte Yie,” the four-day traditional practice for a deceased traditional authority commenced on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The day was nothing short of solemn, yet a spectacular display of well-preserved rich culture and tradition by the Asantes.
Like the first day, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, sat in state at noon to receive guests who sympathised with the Asante Kingdom.
Among the dignitaries were the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Emmanuel Armah Buah and MP for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe.
Delegations from state agencies that attended included the Ghana National Prisons Service (GNFS), National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Signals Bureau (NSB), Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA).
There were also officials from financial institutions, including Consolidated Bank of Ghana, Access Bank, Sinapi Aba, Stanbic Bank, Zenith Bank, OmniBSIC Bank, National Investment Bank, CalBank, Ecobank and Enterprise Insurance.
Joining the mass number of mourners were delegations from TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School and St Louis Senior High School.
