Asantehene Directs Monwire Queen to Step Aside in Selection of Next Chief

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has directed the Queen of Monwire, Obaapanin Agyaponmaa Konadu, to step aside in the process of selecting a candidate for the vacant male stool.
The Family Head, Opanin Kwabena Ofori has been mandated to lead the traditional process to elect a candidate.
This directive was given on March 13, 2025, during the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace.
“Let the family choose a candidate for you while you sit aside and remain on the female stool. This is a matter to be handled indoors.”
The King charged Oheneba Owusu Afriyie IV, Apagyahene, to supervise the process.
Traditionally, a queen is supposed to choose a candidate for a vacant male stool; however, in instances where the female traditional leader is not a royal, she is made to sit aside for the royal family to undertake the task.
