Asantehene in Suriname to Grace 50th Independence Anniversary

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is in Suriname for the 50th Independence Anniversary celebration of the country.
His Majesty arrived in the country on Monday, November 24, 2025, and is scheduled to spend the next three days there.
The King was accompanied by a delegation made up of Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene, Nana Effah-Apenteng, Bompatahene, Nana Agyekum Kusi II, Oyokohene, Baffour Osei Kwame Kantankrakyi, Otumfuo Kyeame and Oheneba Owusu Korkor, Asamponghene.
Otumfuo was received at the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport by a delegation, including H.E. André Misiekaba, Minister of Health, Welfare and Labour; Amb. Michel Kerpens, Senior Advisor to the Minister of BIS; and Members of the National Assembly, Mr Ebu Jones, Mrs Annie Kersenhout-Sadi, and Ms Tashana Lösche.
Day 2
Today, the King will grace an Extraordinary Session of The National Assembly in the morning, which will be addressed by the Speaker, The Hon. Dr Ir Michaël A. Adhin and President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.
This will be followed by a Parade of the Armed Forces and other activities, including Parachute jumping.
In the afternoon, the Monarch will attend a reception on the occasion of the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Suriname hosted by the President H.E. Geerlings-Simons, and her Spouse, Mr Glenn E. Geerlings, at the Presidential Palace.
Later in the evening, Otumfuo will join an event featuring cultural activities as part of the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Day 3
The final day of the visit will witness a number of courtesy calls on the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, and two members of the National Assembly.
Otumfuo will depart the country on November 27, 2025.
