Asantehene Indefinitely Postpones Planned Odwira Festival

Otumfuo Proposes Plan to Revolutionize Farming in Ghana

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has indefinitely postponed the planned Odwira festival.

This was announced on October 16, 2025, when the Asanteman Council convened for a meeting.

His Majesty cited tradition and the death of the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III as the reason for the decision.

“Tradition demands that a successor is enstooled and the requisite stool rites done at Wirempe. After that we will have to hold a funeral for the late Queen.”

The Asantehene said a new date will be announced at the appropriate time.

According to arrangements announced earlier this year, the rites were scheduled to start on October 31, 2025.

It’s been 64 years since the last Odwira festival was observed.
