Asanteman Mourns: 3 Things You’ll See At Manhyia Palace During Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s One-Week

Asanteman to Mark One-Week Observation of Queen

The Manhyia Palace is engulfed in grief as it observes the one week of the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa.

The Palace is bustling with preparations.

Meanwhile, in accordance with tradition, royals and queens are already seated at the residence of the Queen, receiving the condolences of guests.

Here are Three things to look out for as the event carries on:
1 Nwomkro
Attendees will be serenaded by traditional singers, whose captivating and soothing performances will fill the air inside and outside the Palace.

Known locally as Nwomkro, they distinguish themselves for the simple musical instruments they use and the in-depth nature of their culturally and traditionally rich lyrics.

The palace entrance is abuzz with singers and dancers, ready to welcome guests, while others are situated within the Palace and at the residence of the late Queen.

2 Kete
The royal instrument is also on display, ready to usher in the numerous Asante traditional leaders to the event grounds.

Positioned at the entrance and vantage points, it will echo the grief of the Kingdom during the solemn procession of Nananom.

3 Display of Traditional priests:
One of the very significant emblems in today’s event is the display of traditional priests and priestesses.

A poignant display of traditional worship is underway at the Manhyia Palace, as priests and priestesses showcase their deep reverence and mourning to mark the one-week observance of Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Led by Baffuor Asabre Kogyawoasu Ababio, Otumfuo Sumankwaahene, at least five groups of traditional priests, each representing different deities, have taken positions opposite the Queen’s residence.

Each group is actively demonstrating their mystical powers and spiritual connections, giving weight to the solemn occasion.

The display will last until sunset.
