Bawku Conflict: Asantehene’s Mediation Has Ensured Relative Calm, Stability- GJA Prez

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Dwomfour, has acknowledged the role of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the “relative” peace and stability in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Speaking at the 29th GJA Awards on November 8, 2025, he commended President John Dramani Mahama for prudently engaging the King in the resolution of the conflict.
“We commend our very own President Mahama for nominating Your Majesty to lead the mediation effort in the Bawku conflict, a move that has helped to ensure relative calm and stability as we speak.”
Underscoring the essence of peace in development, he suggested the government extend such a conflict resolution module to other areas battered by conflict.
“We believe this module can be extended to other conflict probe areas so that communities across Ghana may also enjoy the peace needed for development to thrive. The GJA therefore urges continued government support for such traditional-led peace efforts as they strengthen unity and national cohesion.”
The 29th GJA Awards was hosted by the Manhyia Palace under the theme: “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight against Galamsey.”
