Leverage Ghana Card to Reduce Traffic Offences – Asantehene to DVLA

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has counselled the management of the Ashanti Regional Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to leverage the national identification system to reduce offences.
The King firmly believes that by maximising the potentials of the Ghana Card in the vehicle documentation and driver licensing regime, many traffic offences can be traced to culprits.
His Majesty shared this view with the Manager during a visit to the Manhyia Palace on May 28, 2025.
“The Ghana Card has the capacity to make tracing road traffic offenders easier.”
Otumfuo further emphasised the core and critical mandate of the management and challenged the individual members to work towards giving the Authority a new image.
“You are not there for your personal interest but for the betterment of the country. Unite as a family and apply your expertise to enhance the effectiveness of the Authority.”
“The success or otherwise of your work will be attributed to the entire DVLA and not only the government appointee, so make sure you join forces and help the Manager undertake his mandate.”
The delegation was at the Palace to formally introduce itself to the King and seek his blessings as it set out to work.
Mr Afablo was accompanied by Mr Hudu Ali Arzika, the Deputy Manager, Frank Marful Sau, Head of Finance, Erasmus Matthew Afagbegee, also Head of Finance, Angela Fosua, Internal Auditor, Helis Mensah, Senior Finance Officer, and others.
In an interview with opemsuo.com after the courtesy visit, the Manager said customer service was his prime objective.
He said the DVLA was refocusing its policy to ensure reliable and top-notch services are delivered to customers.
“My predecessor has finished his work and I look forward to continuing from where he left off so we can satisfy Asanteman in our service. We want to render reliable and satisfactory services to them. Customer focus is our new direction.”
One of the things he said his outfit was eagerly tackling was clearing all the application backlogs.
“We are working on all the backlogs to distribute the licence cards to applicants.”
In the process, he said applicants will be promptly updated on the progress of their applications.
Through this, applicants will be informed of developments regarding their vehicle registration processes.
“We rolled the SMS out over the weekend. I got mine. We have broadcasted to all those who have registered. We are managing pressure and so we have released messages to those who applied in November. They began coming in for their licences on Monday.”
According to him, December applicants will receive their notification messages this Friday.
He explained, “We don’t want people to walk into our offices to find out the status of their application. We intend to be proactive and that’s why we introduced the SMS. Those who may need to rectify anything will also be notified through SMS.”
