Nana Konadu Yiadom III Dɔte Yie: Schools, Banks, Offices Included In Thursday’s Shutdown Directive

Educational and corporate institutions within the Kumasi metropolis fall within the shutdown directive issued by the Manhyia Palace to make way for the burial of the late Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The directive will be enforced on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the final day of the burial rites of the Queen, when her remains will be laid to rest.
Before then, all businesses can carry on with their operations within the mourning period.
Announcing this at a presser on Friday, September 12, 2025, was the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the event, Nana Effah Appenteng.
“On that day, no one should do business. It’s not just shops but schools, banks and offices. Customs must be upheld. This applies to only Kumasi.”
In addition, Nana Effah, who is the Paramount Chief of Bompata Traditional Area, reminded the public about a ban on outdoor movement that night.
“The rites will take place from Monday to Thursday. On Thursday, the Queen will be taken to Breman. She will first be taken to Bantama before Breman. That night, everyone must stay indoors. We want tranquillity to bury the Queen.”
Burial Rites Sequence of Attendance
The former diplomat noted that attendance at the burial will be in an order of sequence, starting with Churches and Clergy, Political Parties, Educational Institutions, NGOs, Telecommunication Companies, Corporate Institutions, all recognised associations and the General Public on Monday, September 15.
The Judiciary & Ghana Bar Association, Security Agencies, the GAF, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Customs, SOEs & Public officials, Financial Institutions and the General Public on Tuesday, September 16.
Reps of National House of Chiefs and Regional Houses, Ministers of State, Diplomatic Corps, Parliamentarians, MCEs & DCEs and the General Public have been designated for Wednesday, September 17.
The Presidency, Former Presidents, Former Vice Presidents, Diplomatic Corps and the General Public will take their turn on Thursday, September 18.
Filling past each day will start at 5 am and end at 5:30 pm, Nana Effah said, adding that all those willing to join must accord the Queen with due respect.
He educated women with headscarves to take them off before entering the place where the Queen will be laid.
He also warned against taking footage of the body, adding that anyone found culpable would be dealt with.
“All groups and individuals, irrespective of their designated days, will be guided by these directives,” the chairman of the planning committee affirmed.
Parking
The guests have designated car parks at Mahyia Melcome, Antoa Station, Central Mosque, Degraft Memorial Methodist Church premises and Asawase Metro Cluster of Schools.
Those who park their cars at Central Mosque, Degraft Memorial Methodist Church premises and Asawase Metro Cluster of Schools will be carted by shuttles to the Manhyia Palace.
To Asante Chiefs
All Asante traditional rulers were directed to be present for the three days- September 16-18- when the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will sit in state.
They must be present to receive guests together with His Majesty.
“The dress code is black for all chiefs,” he added.
Media Instructions
The Committee encouraged the media to propagate all the relevant information from the published press pack and avoid misinformation.
“Don’t put out anything Manhyia hasn’t sanctioned.”
They were also urged to abide by all the performance guidelines and avoid breaching protocols.
“For your safety and convenience, please stick to authorised zones during the event.”
Public Instruction
The general public was also encouraged to respect protocols and avoid the dais and critical points of the grounds.
“Mourners must avoid roaming about and stay within bounds. They must not go to places they have no authorisation to go.”
Health Emergencies
The committee also announced that provisions have been made for health emergencies.
“We have designated about five spots where anyone in need of medical attention can be assisted.”
Accreditation
Concluding the presser, the Royal Ambassador of the Manhyia Palace, Oheneba Yaw Okyere, assured members of the media and all other stakeholders that their accreditation cards will be ready for collection on Saturday.
These accreditation cards will offer the stakeholders the convenience to discharge their due mandates during the four-day burial rites of the late Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
All applicants were directed to visit the Secretariat of the Manhyia Palace on Saturday morning.
“From 10 am to 12 noon, all accreditations will be ready for collection at the secretariat,” he said.
