Obogumanhene Swears Allegiance to Otumfuo

The Paramount Chief of Obogu Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Ampah III, has pledged allegiance to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Following his enstoolment to succeed Nana Oduro Apenteng Darkwa ll, the Lieutenant Colonel appeared before the Occupant of the Golden Stool and Asanteman Traditional Council to commit himself to the service of His Majesty on July 4, 2024.

He was accompanied by the queen mother of the Area, Nana Akua Pokuaa II, some traditional authorities in the Area and a group of military personnel led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Opoku.

While praying Otumfuo to accept his request to take an oath, each member of the Committee gave wise counsel. He was among other things advised to honour the Great Oath and set his focus on developing his Area.

Meanwhile, Otumfuo instructed him to take seriously all stool rites.

“Your attitude towards the stool will determine your fate in Obogu. You came along with prominent military officers and you have the knowledge in that profession but you will have to learn that of chieftaincy. Do well to undertake all needed rites. You cannot afford to ignore them. If you think you are a Christian and your faith doesn’t allow sacrifices to the stool, then you don’t need to occupy the stool.”

To the Queen of the Area and traditional authorities, Otumfuo counselled to rally behind him with the needed support and unity.

As the soldier he is, he gallantly stood forward to clutch the sword after imbibing all the counsel and declared, “I will emulate the service of my predecessors. I will avail myself of the service to Otumfuo at all times   and bring honour to the King. If I fail to do this except in sickness, I violate the Great Oath.”

Background
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II paved the way for the enstoolment of Mr Akwesi Wusu as the next paramount chief of the Obogu Traditional Area four months ago.

The process of electing a candidate to succeed the late Nana Oduro Apenteng Darkwa ll encountered some challenges which necessitated the intervention of Otumfuo a few weeks ago.

His Majesty resolved the outstanding hindrance to the enstoolment of a new chief earlier, and ordered Obaahemaa Akua Pokuaa II, the queen mother of the Area, to elect a candidate from the Abuom Ayoko royal family.

The process again suffered a setback when a young royal invoked the Great Oath claiming the candidate was not suitable.

The issue presided over by Asantehene during the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on March 25, 2024, gave the young man the platform to make his case at the end of which he realized he had committed a blunder.

The Council chastised him for what seemed like a challenge to the earlier ruling of the King concerning the stool.

His Majesty passing his judgment upheld his previous verdict.

“No one or nothing can change my verdict on any case. This case is already closed.”
