Perpetrators of Transatlantic Slave Trade Must Atone For their Sins – Otumfuo

Direct Flight Between Africa and the Caribbean is Long Overdue- Otumfuo

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has supported calls for reparation and compensation by perpetrators of the Transatlantic Slave Trade perpetrated some 400 years ago.

The Monarch reiterated that the so-called trade was the largest long-distance forced movement of people recorded in history and constituted a crime against humanity.

Otumfuo believes reparations will be realised through the united advocacy of Africa and Africans in the diaspora.

“In the same vein, we should work together on the complex issue of reparations, seeking fair access, development, and compensation for historical injustices, some amounting to crimes against humanity.”

“We may have forgiven the perpetrators of such heinous crimes, but we should compel them through strong international advocacy to atone for their sins.”

The Asantehene made these comments while speaking at the University of the West Indies in Barbados on November 12, 2025.
