Unemployment Is a Major National Crisis Mahama Must Prioritise- Asantehene

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged President John Dramani Mahama to take an interest in addressing the unemployment crisis confronting the country.

His Majesty described the situation as a major national concern while addressing the 59th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on November 29, 2025.

“Unemployment is a major issue. It is a national concern, and the President should take a keen interest in this critical issue.”

In helping to address this, Otumfuo said he raised the issue during an engagement with the President of Germany, HE Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

His Majesty appealed for support for Ghanaian small and medium-scale industries, indicating that an expansion would enable them to absorb the teeming youth.

“We are all aware of the unemployment situation in this nation. It was on that basis that I raised the issue when the German President and Ambassador paid courtesy calls on me last month.”

The King used the occasion to reiterate the appeal to the German government.

“I wish to reiterate my appeal to the German government to support small and medium-scale industries.”
