Asantehemaa Dɔte Yie: Asantehene Officiates Initial Rites for Public Tribute

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officiated the initial rites to make way for Asanteman and sympathisers to pay their last respects and mourn the death of the Queen, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

These rites were performed at dawn, making the King the first to see the remains of Her Majesty, as tradition demands.

The public can now go in to pay tribute from now till Thursday, September 18, 2025.

His Majesty will, on the last day, again officiate similar rites for the Queen to be put in a casket, making him the last to see her.

The carefully planned rites will witness a series of activities from September 15 to September 18, when the rites will come to an end.

Her Majesty will be buried on the last day at Breman Baamu.

Filing past is reserved to take place sequentially among dignitaries and the general public from September 15 to 18, between 5 am and 5 pm, except for the last day, when it will end at 11 am to make way for a burial service at 3 pm.

A key point to note is the institution of the restriction on outdoor movement effective 7 pm on September 18 to make way for the burial of Her Majesty.
