African Continental Free Trade Agreement Is Best AU Decision in Six Decades- Otumfuo

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has described the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) as the best decision made by African Heads of Government in six decades.

Labelling it as a ‘promising prospect’, Otumfuo explained that the treaty has the power to revolutionise African trade and development as well as equip African countries with stronger negotiating power in multilateral areas.

The King anticipates that this will boost the collective ability to change the terms of global trade.

Meanwhile, Otumfuo suggested that closer Africa-Caribbean trade relations could prove to be mutually beneficial.

The Asantehene made these remarks while speaking at the University of the West Indies in Barbados on November 12, 2025.
