Stop Blatantly Defending Every Case You Receive- Otumfuo to Lawyers

Asantehene Raises Alarm Over Hijacking of Media Profession by 'Professional Hustlers'

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has counselled legal practitioners to carefully examine cases before accepting to defend them in court.

Acknowledging the nature of the legal profession, Otumfuo affirmed that some cases are frivolous on the surface and ought not to be pursued.

His Majesty, therefore, encouraged them to stop accepting every case for the sake of defence.

This message was directed at legal practitioners while the King was decrying attempts of encroachment on the land of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) during the 59th Congregation on November 29, 2025.

The Asantehene disclosed some of these encroachers, claiming ownership of parts of the university’s land, had initiated legal actions.

“Unfortunately, they get some lawyers to take these matters to court when they know it shouldn’t be so, especially here, people present themselves as abusapanin {claiming} family lands when it is not like that. Yet lawyers, by their profession, take this to court to defend themselves, which is wrong. They have been educated, and they know this is also an educational institution.”
