Asantehene Clears Path For Enstoolment of Next Kwamang Chief

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has cleared all impediments to the selection and subsequent enstoolment of a new chief over Kwamang in Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region.

This took place at the Manhyia Palace during an Asanteman Council meeting on September 26, 2024, after a committee report on their dispute was read.

The dispute emanated from a claim by the Family Head of the Kwamang Stool, Opanyin Mensah Bonsu, that the Edwenase family has been banned from occupying the stool.

This was challenged by one Opanyin Akwasi Agyare of the Edwenase stool who invoked the Great Oath to question the credibility of the claim. Among his demands were answers regarding the timeline of the ban, the cause, and the Asantehene under whose reign it occurred.

After the committee report was presented, the Asantehene rubbished the stance of Abusuapanin Mensah Bonsu with factual historical precedents and directed him to join the heads of the eight royal houses- including the Edwenase Family- to elect a candidate to occupy the stool.

Otumfuo added, “Your plan from the onset was to join the eight women of the royal house to elect a candidate for the stool. They resisted it…. There is no cause for divisions. Go by your plan. One of the eight women is from the Edwenase Family. Join them to make up nine people and elect a candidate.”
