Asantehene Ends Dispute Over Adwumfuohene’s Black Stool

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has given Nana Opoku Duben II, Adwumfuohene, the nod to keep his black stool.

The ruling comes after the Family Head of Adumasa beseeched the Asantehene about Adwumfuohene’s invasion and plundering of the stool the same day he took the oath of allegiance.

“Nana we all came here the last time for the oath of allegiance of Adwumfuohene. Right from here, he sent a car full of policemen, military men and thugs to invade and plunder the stool room,” he said during the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on March 10, 2025, while Adwumfuohene was expressing gratitude to the King.

On further questioning, he revealed that the black stool that was taken belonged to Adwumfuo.

The King was also informed about how the traditional leaders of Adumasa sidestepped tradition and indulged the media in the affairs of the stool instead.

“Why did you go to the media over this matter?” Asantehene questioned.

“Go and let the media speak for you then.”

He chastised the parties for a protracted tussle over the stool and declared, “If he has taken the stools, let it remain.”

Adwumfuo and Adumasa have been in a tussle over the black stool for quite a while.

While Adwumfuo claims Adumasa is its subject, the latter claims it is independent.

Brief History
Adwumfuo was among a troop that was sent by Denkyirahene to Asante to take some tributes. At the time, he was the goldsmith of the Denkyirahene. On arrival, Asantehene Opemsuo Osei Tutu spared his life on realising that he would be of much use to him but killed the rest of the troop.

The Adwumfuohene was thus designated Adumasa where he operated until he was directed to relocate to Adum to enable him to get closer to the King due to his strategic role. He thereby chose an Odikro to take care of Adumasa on his behalf.

Despite staying at Adum, his stool remained in Adumasa until Nana Opoku Duben II went for it in a raid on his enstoolment.
