Asantehene Invited To Chair JEA Mills Memorial Heritage Lecture

The Board of the John Evans Atta (JEA) Mills Memorial Heritage has invited the ruler of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to chair the JEA Mills Memorial Heritage Lecture.

The lecture marks the culmination of the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the late former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

Relaying the objective of the visit, the Chairman of the Board, Mr Alex Segbefia, said “We’ve had a series of lectures to commemorate his 10th Anniversary. It was a year-long event and we therefore cast all the 16 regions in Ghana to five different classes. Culminating with the last lecture for the Ashanti and Eastern regions combined.”

He continued, “We come to seek his permission; ask you to chair the event for us.”

He said it was “fitting” to invite the King due to his status and relationship with the former President.

“We deem it fitting because of who you are and what you represent; Because of your relationship with the late Professor and finally because it adds a certain value to his name which cannot be minimized if your name and your Palace are associated with the event.”

During the courtesy call on Friday, July 7, 2023, he explained the lecture will be held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on July 27, 2023.

He said P. L. O. Lumumba will be the guest speaker at the event.

The JEA Mills Memorial Heritage was set up as a limited liability company in 2021 and was inaugurated in October 2022 to mortalise the name of the late John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage.

Mr Segbefia told His Majesty, “We are non-partisan so when we go for our functions we invite people from all walks of life in Ghana so that his name is not linked necessarily to that political party {NDC} though he was president from that political party.”

In reaction, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his satisfaction with the non-partisanship of the NGO and the objective with which it was set up.
