Asantehene Orders Immediate Enstoolment of Kwadwo Boateng as Kwamanghene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has given an order for the immediate enstoolment of Kwadwo Boateng, a duly chosen royal, as the chief of Kwamang.

It comes after the Adontenghene, Kyeame Panin and Gyaasehene failed to give reasons for their earlier objection to the candidate’s enstoolment.

The Paramount Chief of Kumawu Traditional Area, Barima Tweneboah Kodua, reported to the Asanteman Council on July 28, 2025, that they had all taken a u-turn and softened their stance.

They are now willing to accept the chosen royal, the traditional ruler reported.

In addition, he said, the Kontihene who had during the previous council meeting levelled many allegations against Boateng had withdrawn them all.

“To be meticulous, I again went to meet five other elders who were not able to show up to receive their submissions about the candidate, which came out positive.”

Otumfuo, in response, ordered the family head to, as a matter of urgency, hand over the selected royal to the kingmakers for his enstoolment.

“Present him to the kingmakers for the needed rites to be conducted.”

Background
On July 10, 2025, a longstanding litigation over the number of royal households that are entitled to the stool was resolved, making way for the nomination of a candidate.

The elderly women heading the four households made a decision- two opting for Kwadwo Boateng and the remaining two opting respectively for Anim Boateng and Karikari.

While finalising the nomination of Kwadwo Boateng as a candidate for the vacant Kwamang stool, an objection was raised by the kingmakers after the Asantehene called them in for their take on the nominee.

From their demeanour, His Majesty discerned that they needed a private audience to be able to divulge their reasons.

Otumfuo, therefore, directed the Kumawuhene to hear them out and later report to him.

The Asantehene also urged Kumawuhene to provide them with the requisite security against violence and intimidation.
