Asantehene to Receive Another Honorary Doctorate Degree

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced that it will bestow an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) on His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, in a ceremony scheduled for September 5, 2024.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is being honoured for his exceptional services to the nation, particularly his efforts in promoting unity and development within the Asante Kingdom and other regions of Ghana.

The university recognizes his significant contributions to humanity, especially in the areas of water and sanitation, health, education, entrepreneurship, culture, and heritage.

In a press release, the university noted, “The University further appreciates his demonstration of love, peace and democracy by convincing leaders of the various political parties in Ghana to sign a pledge to ensure peace before, during and after Ghana’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2012.

“Also, the University recognises Otumfuo’s remarkable role as the leader of the Mediation Committee that helped in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute. His peaceful persona, coupled with his ability to settle difficult disputes has indeed contributed to the settlement of over five hundred (500) land and Chieftaincy disputes among his people and elsewhere.”

The revered King of the Ashanti Kingdom, has received numerous honorary doctorates from esteemed institutions around the world including Essex County College Newark, USA; University of Maryland, USA; Savannah State University, USA; University of Glasgow, Scotland; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana; University of Ghana, Legon; Igbinedeon University, Nigeria; and Metropolitan University, London.
