Asantehene@26: God Made Me King- Otumfuo

One of the convictions the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has steadfastly maintained throughout the over two decades he has ruled is that ‘God is the Maker of Kings’.
This statement has been consistently rehearsed into the ears of politicians seeking power whenever they visit the Manhyia Palace to seek the blessings of His Majesty.
The King sees himself as a testament to this conviction.
In 1999 when the 15th Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, passed away and the time came for a successor to be appointed, the then Queen, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, alongside the entitled four Kumasi Traditional Council Divisions settled on Nana Kwaku Dua as the 16th Monarch.
The contenders for the stool, which included his nephews and a cousin, were equally qualified to assume office. However, his destiny was written in the sky and sealed.
Indeed, he had been predestined to take over the mantle.
Speaking about his contenders in an interview on Good Evening Ghana Show in the first year of his reign, Otumfuo affirmed that, “They are all men of quality substance in everything but unfortunately, there was bound to be just one person who should be nominated and fortunately, by God’s grace, it was me.”
Whenever the opportunity presents itself 26 years down the line, His Majesty proclaims the hand of God in his leadership.
During a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Methodist Church of Ghana on April 19, 2024, Otumfuo emphasized that God was the source of his authority.
“God put me here. It is not by my will, beauty, strength or wisdom. His will has put me here. If I forget that he is the source of my authority, I will not progress. What I never forget is that I’m seated here because of His grace.”
He believes anyone could have been chosen for the position; however, the Creator of the Universe appointed him.
