Asanteman Gets 15th Asantehemaa

The Asante Kingdom has a new Queen following her appointment by the King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Nana Ama Bonsu was enstooled on July 6, 2026, in succession to Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away last year.

Her selection followed the laid-down traditional process.

Process

On Monday morning, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, summoned Kokofuhemaa, Kenyasehemaa, Nana Asantehemaa Kotimso ne Nkonson, Otumfuo Gyaasehene, the Oyoko Abohyen Abusuapanin and other relevant traditional authorities to present the name of the nominee to ascend the vacant female stool.

They were informed of her selection as Asantehemaa and then dispatched to bring her.

The delegation proceeded to her family house opposite the Manhyia Palace and informed her of her call to the Palace.

She was escorted on foot to the Manhyia Palace, specifically to the Asantehemaa’s Palace, where she was received with jubilation and the sound of drums.

She was also sprinkled with white powder as a sign of celebration.

The nominee was then seated in the official seat of Asantehemaa inside the Palace, and together with other elders, was formally informed of her enstoolment by Otumfuo’s Linguist, Baffour Kantankrakyi.

She then received homage from well-wishers.

Meanwhile, her stool name will be made known following the requisite traditional rites today.
