Avoid Derogatory Comments – Otumfuo To Politicians

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has advocated for healthy and sanitized campaigns among politicians and their cohorts in the lead-up to the 2024 General Elections.

According to him, the upcoming election is another platform to reaffirm the country’s exemplary democratic values and to preserve the same before the global stage.

He has therefore urged political parties to shun derogatory comments and discourses that would throw away the country’s 32-year hard-earned legacy in peaceful transitions of power.

“As the campaign gains momentum, government and all stakeholders, especially the political parties and the teeming supporters, are urged to uphold the sanctity of discourse and refrain from the propagation of divisive rhetoric and incendiary language.”

Calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to uphold fairness and impartiality in the electoral process, His Majesty also encouraged the general public to unite in safeguarding the longstanding integrity of the nation’s democratic values in all earnestness.

“Our collective objective must be to foster an environment of mutual respect and constructive dialogue. Priding ourselves as a democratic country, I urge all to unite in our resolve to safeguard the integrity of our established democratic institutions and uphold the noble values of our nation’s status. Let us show the world we are indeed a democratic nation,” he said at the 57th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on March 23, 2024.
