Former SA Deputy Prez Celebrates Akwasidae With Asantehene

At the eighth Akwaside festival at the Manhyia Palace yesterday {November 26, 2023} was the former Deputy President of South Africa, Mr David Mabusa.

The former leader was accompanied by the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason.

The pair made their way to the King and paid their homage to him as he sat in state at the Afia Kobi Park at the Manhyia Palace.

The High Commissioner introduced the member of the ruling African National Congress party of South Africa to the King.

Mr Mabuza was sworn in as deputy president in 2019 and resigned earlier this year after Paul Mashatile was elected ANC deputy president at the party’s December conference.

He becomes the second government official of South Africa to visit the Palace this year.

On October 27, 2023, SA Minister for Human Settlements, Hon. Mmamoloko Kubayi was led to the Palace over a probable partnership between her country and Ghana in the area of housing and human settlement.

She briefed the occupant of the Golden Stool on the envisioned collaboration during a courtesy call.

In her address, she said the collaboration should be a win-win one aimed at improving human settlement spaces to enable the African continent to evolve into a much more desirable place of settlement.

She hopes the agreement will be penned by the end of the year.

“If possible, it will be signed by the end of the year,” she said adding that the agreement will be reviewed to deliver mutual benefit.
