Manhyia Rallies Media Support for Asantehene’s Anniversary, Heal KATH

The Manhyia Palace has sought the indulgence of the media in the creation of the necessary public awareness about two significant projects under the auspices of the Palace.

The Chief of Staff of the Palace, Mr Kofi Badu, in a statement on March 21 appealed to the media to initiate specific programmes to raise funds for the renovation of the Heal Komfo Anokye Hospital as well as provide coverage for the 25th Anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Palace notes that air time and space for jingles and other promotional material provided by the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HEKAP) Committee may not be enough to create the needed awareness about the revenue mobilization and therefore the request for enhanced programmes.

It suggested a friendly competition among the media in raising US$10 million from listeners, readers and audience.

“In recognition of our mutual interests in this Memorable Year, Manhyia Palace is pleased to invite the media to join in a shared effort to achieve the success we crave for both the Silver Jubilee Celebrations and the Heal Komo Anokye Project (HEKAP). This Project also provides an opportunity for the media to demonstrate its capacity to spearhead good service to the community.”

With respect to the Silver Jubilee, the Palace requested the media work closely with the Planning Committee to offer all the needed publicity.

“Specifically, we request the media to grant the Committee air time and space for the official jingles and such official publicity material as they may release from time to time. Manhyia further appeals to the media to raise and sustain awareness of the Silver Jubilee by initiating daily programmes focusing on the essence of the Heritage of Asante, and the impact of the reign of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the global as well as the national stage.”

It continued, “Manhyia is ready to provide resource persons and resource materials for any programmes or features for all sectors of the media, but we will also encourage the media to make use of notable journalists, historians, academics and other experts whose insight will enhance the kind of public discourse appropriate for the occasion.”
