Offinso Introduces New Queen to Asanteman Council

The Offinso Traditional Council led by the Paramount Chief, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, has introduced their newly enstooled queen, Nana Adwoa Afranewaa to the Asanteman Council.

From the Akokodiase Royal Family, she replaces Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, who was destooled earlier this year by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Nana Afranewaa was introduced to the Asanteman Council during a meeting at the Manhyia Palace on September 26, 2024.

Introducing her, Nana Dwamena Akenten said, “I ascended the stool without a mother (Queen). Today, I have gotten one and I am here to introduce her to the Council officially. This will also mark her first attendance to the Asanteman Council meeting.”

The Council chaired by the Asantehene warmly welcomed her as he gave a brief background about Nana Afranewaa I.

“Do you know the history about Afranewaa? She was the first person to pull a gun to resist the Whites in the 1900s. She was the one who inspired her sister, Yaa Asantewaa to lead the men to war against the British.”

Background
The occupant of the Golden Stool, ended the over three-decade reign of Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, the Queen of Offinso Traditional Area earlier this year.

Her destoolment was pronounced on Thursday, January 11, 2024, when Nana Dwamena Akenten II appeared before the Asanteman Council to swear the oath of allegiance.

It marked the first meeting of the Council this year and she was the first traditional authority to be destooled by the King in 2024.

The destoolment was premised on gross insubordination on her part after refusing to appear before Otumfuo following a summon, adding to her series of offences.

Delivering the verdict, Otumfuo said, “I deliver the town into your hands alone. You have no queen mother. Find a new queen mother to help you undertake your mandate when you have settled down. We need a queen mother who will be present here when we need her.”
