Otumfuo Applauds Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Trailblazer for Women Vying for Vice Chancellor Positions

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has recognised Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as a pacesetter as he observes the rate at which women have gained interest in contending with men for the Vice Chancellorship positions in various universities.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang was appointed the first female VC of a public university, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 2008. She served in that capacity until 2012.
His Majesty acknowledged that she has since paved the way and opened the door for other women to enter.
“You also paved the way for women to become Vice-Chancellors. I believe strongly the women are competing with the men to be Vice Chancellors.”
The King affirmed his support for all women eyeing the positions, saying “I pray so that it works.”
Meanwhile, Otumfuo expressed joy at seeing Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang in optimal wellness.
The Monarch met the veep at the 58th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on June 28, 2025.
In his speech, while welcoming her, Otumfuo prayed that she thrived in abundant grace and longevity.
“I extend my warmest welcome to our dear Vice President. We are happy to see and welcome you to today’s graduation ceremony. I am personally happy to see you well and healthy, and we pray for God’s abundant grace and long life for you.”
