Otumfuo Has Never Interfered In The Work Of Any Govt Official – COP Kofi Boakye

Retired Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye, has strongly asserted that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, has never intervened in the duties of any government official within his jurisdiction.

Speaking to Opemsuo Radio’s Kofi Boakye, he emphasized that claims suggesting Otumfuo’s involvement in governmental or security matters were unfounded.

He clarified that Otumfuo refrains from influencing actions such as arrests or worker transfers, contrary to rumours.

“I want everyone to understand that anyone in any public or government work or security work who ever says to you, Otumfuo says that or says we do this, it is not true.. Otumfuo doesn’t interefere in what government does like arrest of someone, transfer of workers.. so anyone who is in Kumasi who says that is lying.”

COP Boakye recounted his own experience upon assuming the role of Commissioner of Police in Kumasi, where Otumfuo encouraged him to be bold and assured him of support, emphasizing that he entrusted the town to Boakye’s care.

“When I moved to Kumasi, i went to see him and he said, Kofi, I have put the town in your hands, what you will say is what I will do, he told me to be courageous because he is solidly behind me.”

According to the retired commander, Otumfuo extends similar sentiments of empowerment and support to all government officials who visit the Manhyia Palace.

He stressed that Otumfuo’s role is solely to provide assistance and guidance when needed, rather than dictate governmental decisions.

COP Kofi Boakye officially retired from the Ghana Police Service last year.

In 2005, as the Commissioner of Police, he led a team from the Accra Region Command in the successful apprehension of the infamous armed robber, Ataa Ayi, and his gang, catapulting him to nationwide recognition.

During his tenure as the police chief of the Ashanti Region, he struck fear into the hearts of numerous criminals due to his proactive methods in apprehending offenders.
