Otumfuo Sets Up Committees to Probe Land Dispute Involving Yabehene

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has set up three committees to look into multiple claims of land annexation against Nana Kontomere Kwame Frimpong Ababio, Yabehene.
Traditional leaders from at least ten different jurisdictions accuse him of unlawfully seizing land and appointing caretakers (Dikro) in those areas.
The affected parties include Asafohene, Twediehene, Didahene, Otumfuo Buabasa, Mpataasiehene, Atwima Foasehene, Apemanimhene, Toasehene, Atwima Kwanwomahene, Trabuomhene, and Adomanyahene.
Each of these individuals was given the opportunity to present their case before the Kumasi Traditional Council on 13 March 2025.
Meanwhile, Yabehene denied illegally taking the lands, noting that they were all part of his lands- Yaw Nkrumah lands.
Order on Dikro
After hearing all parties, Otumfuo ordered Yabehene to annul the enstoolment of any Dikro until the case is resolved.
“He cannot enstool any Dikro while the case is pending. All those positions must be annulled immediately.”
Committee
As a step toward resolving the matter, Otumfuo constituted three committees and grouped the plaintiffs into sets of four.
The Yabehene was included in each group.
The first Committee made up of Baffour Addo Kwabo, Nkyirahene, Baffour Opoku Agyemang, Twafuohene, Nana Kusi Oboadom, Domeabrahene and Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kawku Amoateng IV will take a group made up of Akyamfuohene, Anantahene, Toasehene, Mpataasiehene and Yabehene.
Committee two made up of Nana Dwamena Dankwa Dwebisaw, Drobonsohene, Nana Akwasi Awuah Apinkra, Kontomkoponiafere, Nana Kwabena Bonsu Kanin III, Suaduhene and Kyeame Kwame Bonsu will take up Didahene, Otumfuo Buabasa, Foasehene, Apemanimhene and Yabehene
The last committee will take the group encompassing Boadwahene, Atwima Kwanwomahene, Traboumhene, Adumanyahene and Yabehene.
The Asantehene charged the committees to liaise with Apagyahene for surveyors and visit the communities to survey the boundaries and then listen to the parties.
He further instructed, “the committees must schedule their meetings such that it doesn’t coincide…The objective is for peace to reign and so prioritise honesty in the probe”.
