Oumfuo@25: Manhyia Palace Receives 30 Waste Bins

The Manhyia Palace has taken delivery of 30 waste containers donated by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in collaboration with the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant (KCARP), Africa’s largest compost plant which is a subsidiary of the Jospong Group.

The bins were presented to the Palace by representatives of the donors on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with the sole aim of keeping the Palace tidy in the course of events slated for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Receiving the bins on behalf of the Palace were Otumfuo Ankobeahene, Bafour Kwame Kusi II, Otumfuo Gyaasehene (Buabasa) Nana Aduboffuor Kwaw II and the Chief of Staff of the Palace, Mr Kofi Badu.

Mr Francis Dwira Darko, the Metro Coordinating Director speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive of the Assembly underscored the significance of the bins in maintaining hygienic conditions in the Palace as the events for the anniversary set in.

“Sanitation is one of our numerous mandates and so we wrote to Jospong Group as the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the King approaches for the delivery of bins to ensure the Palace maintains its sanitary condition. Jospong also readily responded to our call and here we are today to deliver them.”

Mr Eugene Amo-Asamoah, the Business Development and Communications Manager of KCARP disclosed the contribution of the Jospong goes beyond the donation of the bins.

According to him, strategic waste management has been fashioned out for the waste that would be gathered from the Palace.

All the waste materials will go straight to the KCARP factory at Adagya to be recycled into new products, he said.

“Zoomlion will come for the waste and send them to our recycling plant where organic wastes would be sorted out and recycled into organic compost for farmers. Plastics, metals and paper wastes would also be recycled separately into valuable products,” he told opemsuo.com.

Nana Buabasa expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for their support towards the anniversary.
