Prioritise Economic Roads- Otumfuo To Roads Minister

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called for the prioritization of economic roads in the construction of road infrastructure across the country.

During a courtesy call by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, His Majesty underscored the significance of road infrastructure to businesses and the development of all sectors of the economy and directed that economic roads be prioritised in the face of limited resources.

He said roads linking mine sites, farms and other economically essential production sites in the country must receive priority when it comes to road networks.

According to His Majesty, not all roads in the country will have the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation due to limited resources and thereby the need to prioritise some over others.

“As you construct new roads, natural phenomena like rain damages them so it is impossible to complete all roads in the country but make sure you complete all roads you have started. Meanwhile, roads that convey cocoa, minerals and economic products must be given special attention and developed.”

Additionally, Otumfuo called for the supervision of road contractors.

The Minister was accompanied to the Palace by the Deputy Minister, Hon. Thomas Mbomba, Chief Director of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ing Dr Abass M. Awolu, Director of the Department of Urban Roads, Ing. James Amoo-Gottfried, Director of the Contracts Division of the Ghana Highway Authority, Ing Collins Donkor and others.

Leading the delegation was the Director of Urban Roads for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Ing Benedict Atta Poku.
