Restore Seized Deity Before Rendering Apology; Asantehene to Faction of Agona Royals

Don’t Use Your Positions to Settle Personal Scores; Otumfuo to Govt Appointees

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has ordered a faction of Agona Royals to restore the seized Amoampong deity before seeking forgiveness for a sin they committed.

As it stands, the King sees no remorse in them.

In his remarks during the Asanteman Council on July 28, 2025, His Majesty chastised them for fighting over a stool when they had a pending issue to resolve.

His Majesty also shared a divine revelation of plots to keep the seized deity in their domain if they failed to get one of their members enstooled as Agonahene.

“You have erred. You haven’t apologised, and yet you are fighting over a stool. You are apologising and yet you haven’t restored the property you seized, where is the remorse?”

Otumfuo directed Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, Tepahene, through whom the apology was relayed before the Council, to see to the restoration of the deity before an apology can be rendered.

A member of the said royals filed a lawsuit against the Asantehene and Asanteman, which they lost at the High Court, Court of Appeal and subsequently at the Supreme Court about 20 years ago.

This was to challenge the traditionally laid down process through which the immediate past chief was chosen to ascend the stool.

In addition, they seized the Amoampong deity and kept it out of the reach of the then-chief.

The royals are now pleading for His Majesty to temper justice with mercy.

The apology comes as processes are ongoing to fill the Agona stool, which has been vacant following the death of Nana Frimpong Anokye Ababio, Agonahene, in 2022.
