See All Cases Asantehene Forwarded to Committees for Probe
The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has forwarded four cases to committees for thorough investigations and onward submission of findings.
The cases involves Kokobeng, Penteng, Krapa and Asante Akyem Hwediem.
The Council presided over by the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II convened on Monday, September 30, 2024 to hear the cases which involves the Invocation of the Great Oath by parties in all the disputes.
Three of these cases were forwarded to the Council by the court of the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
Kokobeng
The first case to be called was that involving Kokobenghene Nana Yaw Gyamfi Berko II who has been accused of selling stool lands in the name of the Asantehene.
He has been accused of selling about 4,000 plots of lands by his nephew.
“He is using Otumfuo’s name to sell all the lands at Kokobeng,” he told the Council, adding that at a point he had to invoke the Great oath to restrain him.
Nana Gyamfi Berko II bluntly denied the allegation saying, “None of what he has said is true.”
The Asantehene thereby constituted a committee made up of Kontomponiafere Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, Oyokohene Nana Agyekum Ababio, Nebihene and Otumfuo-Kyeame Nana Bonsu.
Peteng
The eligibility of the chief of Peteng to the stool is also under dispute.
This case was forwarded to the Council by the Asantehemaa’s court.
Nana Adumanhene, Nana Pramsohene, Nana Asiakwahene and Otumfuo-Kyeame Nana Adutwum were commissioned to look into the case and make their findings known within two weeks.
Krapa
The Family Head of the Aduana Clan in Krapa in the Ejisu Juaben District of the Ashanti Region is accusing the Female Head of the village, Baapanin Akua Adowaa of illegitimately occupying the stool.
It is his position that the stool belongs to the Aduana clan; however, Nana Akua Adowaa disputes it.
“The stool belongs to the Bretuo Clan. Since its establishment, no one except the Bretuo have occupied it.”
Otumfuo thereby gave charge for the in-depth investigation of the owners of the stool to Nana Teekyerehene, Nana Dewuhene, Nana Prabonhene and Otumfuo-Kyeame Nana Antwi.
They have two weeks to present their report to the Council.
Asante Akyem Hwediem
The Family Head of the Bretuo Royal Family at Asante Akyem Hwediem has opposed attempts by the Queen, Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III to select a candidate to occupy the vacant male stool.
He posits that the Queen isn’t of the royal house and thereby has no right to carry out that duty.
She has also been accused of illegally selling stool lands, a right reserved for chiefs.
“I am a royal and a member of the Bretuo royal clan,” she stated before the Kumasi Traditional Council and invoked the Great Oath to deny allegations of the sale of lands.
Otumfuo commissioned Nana Twafohene, Nana Kokofuhene, Nana Aboasohene, Nana Sekyerehene and Otumfuo-Kyeame Wiredu to look into the allegations.
He charged, “Let’s first sort the matters relating to royalty and after that, you deal with the issue of the sale of lands.”
