Asantehene Forwards Duayaw Nkwanta Chieftaincy Dispute to Committee
A five-member Committee headed by Offinsohene Nana Dwamena Akenten II has been constituted by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to delve into the chieftaincy matter in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region.
So far, four individuals from the Tetretrem, Samantwea, and Awirempe families, including the Queen, are in contention over the stool.
At the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on September 26, 2024, during an Asanteman Council meeting, the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom named Adankragyahene Nana Oppong Frenya, Tuobodomhene Nana Agyei Takyi Firi Beyeeman, Domeabrahene Baffour Owusu Bediako and Otumfuo Kyeame Bonsu to join the Offinsohene in probing the dispute.
The Occupant of the Golden Stool charged them, “Look for the person the stool was established and bestowed to and trace her descendants. This is not a matter of who joined the family in occupying the stool. We want the bona fide owners.”
His Majesty has given them a month to conclude the thorough investigation for presentation to the Council.
He also charged the parties to prove their cases with evidence and shun violence of any form in the Traditional Area.
Otumfuo further directed Akwamuhene Nana Boakye Bonsu to continue his leadership as the caretaker of the Traditional Area until the dispute is resolved and a new chief enstooled.
