Asantehene Pays Last Respect To Deceased Paramount Chief Of Agona

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his entourage joined the Agona Traditional Council on Monday, February 27, 2023, to mourn the death of Paramount Chief of the Area, Nana Anokye Ababio.

Omanhene of Agona died at the age of 80 on June 6, 2022.

On June 20, 2022, the Elders of the Agona Traditional Council visited the Manhyia Palace to officially inform Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about the demise of Agona Paramount Chief, Nana Frimpong Anokye Ababio.

Nana Frimpong Ababio was enthroned as Agona Paramount Chief in 2005 and reigned until 2022, thus, he served for 17 years on the stool.

The body of the late Nana Frimpong Ababio, born Daniel Kwasi Berkoh, was laid in state at Agona Chief Palace from midnight on Saturday, February 25, to midnight on Monday, February 27, for traditional leaders, government officials, and the general public to pay their last respect.

Thousands of mourners from far and near gathered at the Agona Chief Palace on the last day to pay their last respect.

In accordance with tradition, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was the last person to pay his last respect before the final traditional rites and internment of the late Nana Frimpong Ababio.

Present on the last day were Paramount Chiefs including: Tepamanhene Nana Adusei Atwerewa Ampem Il, Otumfuo Adontenghene Nana Adu Gyamfi, Asafohene Nana Asafo Boakye Bonsu, and others

Speaking with Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Adu Gyamfi Kumanin, some residents of Agona praised the late Nana Frimpong Ababio as someone who had people’s welfare at heart.
On her part, Agona Wiamoasehemaa, Nana Oforiwa Amanfo, who sat on behalf of Agonahemaa, Nana Akyeampomah Ntensah Yiadom, described the late paramount chief as the epitome of peace and development as far as the Agona Traditional Council was concerned.

She expressed her admiration for the late Nana Frimpong Ababio for the torchbearers’ effort in putting up the Agona Chief Palace-  a beautiful edifice.

The Agona stool and Asante kingdom have a strong bond due to Okomfo Anokye, who was appointed Chief of Agona during the era of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu I.
