Kufuor’s Presidency must be Enshrined for All-time- Asantehene
After staying through decades to witness different governments and administrations take over the helm of affairs and make their contributions toward the economic growth and development of Ghana, the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is certain that the reign of former President John Agyekum Kufuor stands tall in the country’s history.
His Majesty therefore looks forward to seeing the West African country enshrining the remarkable Presidency of the second President of the Fourth Republic as the all-time.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural Black Heritage Network Symposium hosted by Citibank in the United Kingdom under the theme ‘The Asante Kingdom: Historical Legacy and Its Impact on Modern Economic Development’, the Asantehene paid tribute to the former President as he highlighted the inexplicable ever-growing economic plights of Ghanaians despite the abounding resources.
According to the Monarch, the feat achieved during his Presidency is unmatched as he managed to take Ghana from an officially designed Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPIC) to a middle-income country within a period of four short years.
“In spite of a heritage of incredible natural and Human Resources, our economy is still wobbly, unable to generate the resources we need to provide for the well-being of the people still an astonishing number of people languishing in a poverty trap from which escape is proving almost inseparable.”
“This has to be a worry, especially when you consider some of the remarkable achievements of the period. And no one reflects the high achievements of the period better than the extraordinary personality who, ironically, is sharing this event with us today and please join me in paying tribute to President John Agyekum Kufuor…As far as I am aware, he stands alone, the only leader to have achieved this feat and I hope his place in history is enshrined for all time.”
The Symposium was held on Friday, August 2, 2024, and was a collaboration between Citi London’s Black Heritage Network and the Asante Professionals Club UK.
Present at the event were former President of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, Citi Group Chief Client Officer, David Livingstone, and other notable dignitaries, scholars, and business leaders.
The event was used to honour the Asantehene’s contributions and vision for sustainable development, underscoring the importance of the Asante Kingdom’s enduring legacy in the socio-economic fabric of Ghana
