New Date For Manhyia Auditorium Opening Set
The Planning Committee of the 25th Anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has announced a new date for the opening of the Manhyia Palace Auditorium.
In an update delivered during a meeting by the Asanteman Council on March 28, 2024, the Chairman of the committee, Nana Otuo Sereboe, the Juabenhene, said the event will take place on the 15th day of April.
The event for the inauguration will take place at 11 am.
The multi-purpose building sitting inside the Palace was earlier scheduled for commissioning on March 25, 2024; however, it was cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of the committee.
“The building was supposed to be commissioned on March 25 but it had to be rescheduled due to delayed arrival of some items to furnish it as a result of the recent internet outage,” Nana Juabenhene explained.
In a speech, Otumfuo charged all traditional authorities who make up Asanteman to show up for the event in April.
“All must take note of this,” he emphasised.
Naming
The building will be named Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall, the Chairman of the Planning Committee of Asantehene’s 25th Anniversary, Juabenhene Daasebre Otuo Serebuo announced when he first put out a date for its commissioning.
He stated that due to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s unparalleled leadership, the committee decided to request naming it after him.
“The facility was single-handedly constructed by Otumfuo and so we pleaded for his permission to have it named after himself. It will be a long-lasting legacy to his name.”
The magnificent and fully air-conditioned facility, he said, is three and half times the size of the 2,000-capacity Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Emphasizing the critical need for the facility, Juabenhene said the hall would enable traditional authorities to host important events at the Palace instead of renting venues elsewhere and would accommodate as many audiences as possible.
The facility is expected to host some of the events slated for the 25th Anniversary of the King, such as a photo exhibition and a dinner.
