Otumfuo Treats King Mswati to Asante Culture at Its Finest

King Mswati III and his delegation sat mesmerised as they were served with a typical Asante culture and tradition.
It was not just a durbar but a captivating treat to the rich tapestry of Asante culture and tradition at the Manhyia Palace.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, hosted his eminent guest at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi officially welcoming him and his officials to his Kingdom.
Schnapps and a pot of palm wine were offered to the King by Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Sereboe II, as part of the traditional welcome rites.
The grand durbar featured music, appellation, drumming, dance, processions, homages and more. It was not only entertaining but educative and informative.
The event was such that not a single detail of activities that took place slipped without being decoded.
With the kind courtesy of Prof Kwasi Ampene, Professor and Department Chair of Music at Tuft University, all cultural activities that defined the moment were interpreted to the understanding of the guests.
In His Majesty’s speech at the event, he acknowledged the splendour of the event.
“Now that we have experienced the full splendour of your wonderful culture, we take this opportunity to extend an invitation to His Majesty to join Mswati to join on one of our national cultural celebrations. We have no doubt the experience shared with us will be well reciprocated.”
Otumfuo held the event to welcome the absolute Monarch to the Asante Kingdom in Ghana.
In attendance were the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III; wife of the Asantehene, Lady Julia, Paramount Asante traditional rulers; Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene; Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.
This four-day visit reciprocates the Asantehene’s 2015 visit to the Southern African country.
King Mswati is in Ghana with his wife, government officials and some members of the royal family of Eswatini.
