Otumfuo@25: Activities Slated For Chancellor’s Week

As their way of celebrating the remarkable leadership and achievements of the King of the Asante Kingdom and the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the university has slated some activities in his honour.

Dubbed ‘The Chancellor’s Week’, and themed ‘The Asantehene and Chancellor of KNUST: 25 years of Exemplary Leadership’, the opening of the celebration held on May 7 featured the launch of a book containing all speeches delivered by the Chancellor since his induction in 2006 and the unveiling of a Photo Exhibition at the Opoku Ware II Museum.

Present at the event were the Asantehene, the Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Planning Committee, Nana Otuo Sereboe II, traditional authorities in Asanteman, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, the Chairman of the University Governing Council, Justice Anin Yeboah and other management members of the university.

Wednesday
On May 8, 2024 morning, the school will host a debate at the KNUST School of Business Auditorium C under the theme, “Chieftaincy as a Sine Qua Non for Ghana’s Development”.

On Wednesday evening, the Chancellor will spend time with the school at a musical concert. The University Choir and the Kumasi Evangel Choir are booked to perform for the King.

Thursday
Thursday, May 9, will witness a much-anticipated football match between the KNUST and the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).

The double-sided games will feature both male and female teams at the Paa Joe Stadium with the winner taking home the Chancellor’s Cup.

There will also be a tug-of-war between both teams.

Friday
On Friday, the Great Hall will host the “Chancellor’s Day”, an event with a traditional attire prescription.

Among the events to take place would be airing of a documentary on the Chancellor’s activities at KNUST and congratulatory messages from major unions in the University (UTAG, GAUA, SSAK, TEWU TUC, TEWU GH, GRASAG, SRC, ISA, Global Alumni (5 mins each), Presentation of citation to the Chancellor on behalf of the University and cutting of anniversary cake.
